As we have yet to read any science fiction, and as February is traditionally Black History Month, our stories have been selected with N.K. Jemisin's observations* in mind, we'll be reading two sci-fi stories by black authors.
"What It Means When a Man Falls From the Sky," by Lesley Nneka Arimah
"Playing Nice with God's Bowling Ball," by N.K. Jemisin
Totals 10,202 words, approximately 19 pages
Both stories have been featured on LeVar Burton Reads. If you prefer, you can listen to both What It Means When a Man Falls From the Sky and Playing Nice with God's Bowing Ball.
* In 2013 N.K. Jemisin wrote a blog post about the lack of diversity in science fiction: "How Long 'til Black Future Month?"
No Time to Read a Book Club will meet at the Osage Beach Library on Thursday, February 7, at 6:30 pm.
Can't make the meeting? Leave a comment to tell us what you think of this month's stories!
